OMG, I really am getting old!!
No, I’m not talking about the 10 gray hairs I’ve plucked from my head this last 6 months. It’s the fact that my little baby Jack just turned 5 and started kindergarten + Kate just turned 3 and started pre-school!!! With both kids in school I guess it’s downhill from here, right?
Seriously it makes me wonder where the time goes and sometimes I still feel like that 20-something year old guy that wants to be irresponsible and go do his own thing. But then I remember that I’m a parent (and a husband) and I have to be responsible and show a good example for my kiddos. Like when I stub my toe I have to remember to yell out “OH SHOOT!” instead of something more colorful
The whole fatherhood thing makes you want to be a better person in ways you didn’t think about before. I want my kids to be better then I was (and am) & to be innocent and not be corrupted as long as possible. We want them to learn and grow but not grow up too fast. It’s a delicate balance between showing them the world and shielding them from the dark parts they aren’t ready for. I know I didn’t think about these things when I was a selfish 20 year old out for his own enjoyment. I suppose being a father and helping your kids grow up makes you grow up too without even realizing it. Being a parent is awesome, so awesome there just aren’t any words for it.
Just like one can’t explain to someone how hard it’s going to be when they have kids of their own and how much their life is going to change, it can’t be explained how wonderful, rewarding and incredible life will become as well!!!
So the wife was away with her sis shopping all weekend which left the kids and I at home. So between the swimming pool and playing dressup I decided to spend some time cleaning up my ’studio’ (okay - it’s my garage and I pull out the cars to set it up). So I cleaned up & played with my white seamless which I hadn’t done for a while. I worked on my setup & technique and am really really happy with the results. I’ve historically done pretty much all my client shoots on location but have to say I like the prospect of doing some studio based work.
Just FYI I pretty much just grabbed my kids and started snapping photos, we were just having fun. So I’m well aware they may look a little disheveled

Showing off his first big shiner. No fight, just a run in with a slide in the playground.

It’s halarious to listen to her ‘read’. She can’t read but manages to tell quite the tale going through the pictures of the book.

It’s nice to finish off a hot shoot with a cold beer, cheers!
